UPDATE: Mittlerweile (Stand 25. November) hat sich Bassist Tom McClung via Twitter zu Wort gemeldet und hat verkündet: “not over yet”. Außerdem ist das Video “T R I U M P H” durch den Benutzer von YouTube entfernt worden und ist nicht mehr aufrufbar.
Ellery Roberts, Sänger der mysteriösen Indie-Band “WU LYF” aus Manchester hat sich allem Anschein nach von der Band getrennt. Dies lässt ein gestern auf YouTube veröffentlichtes Video vermuten, welches neben einem bislang unveröffentlichten Track mit dem Namen “T R I U M P H” auch einen kryptisch-anmutenden Abschiedsbrief enthält. Auch die offizielle Facebookseite der Band ist aus dem Netz verschwunden.
Die Beschreibung des Videos enthält neben den Lyrics des Songs mehrere Passagen Text, die Roberts offensichtlich zunächst an die Fans der Band gerichtet schrieb und schließlich an die verbleibenden Mitglieder der Band; Evans Kati, Tom McClung und Joe Manning.

I am gone. This isn’t the end. This is the begging.
We done business to be as free as we want to be; I’m exercising this freedom. Manchester and the life we maintaining is leaving me empty. It is a beautiful/ incredible/ insane world we live and I’m done walking round in baby step circles in a self involved bubble. WU LYF isn’t that important. So go do what you want to do. If you wanna play together, Play! your talented musicians so don’t waste that. I am bored of the most challenging thing in WU LYF being deluding myself of its relevance. Dirty free, as that show ended it concreted my decision that a change has to come. “Be the change you want to see” said a wise old man.
I’m going to keep on doing what I do; if the time comes in the future where we all truly want to collaborate on something then that door is always going to be open; I have nothing but love for you all.
But I want to live life that’s true to me.

Ein offizielles Statement von Seiten der Band steht noch aus. Trotz der deutlichen Zeilen reagierten Fans der Band zunächst verhalten auf die unerfreulichen Neuigkeiten.
2011 hatten sich WU LYF durch einen massiven PR-Hype in der Musikpresse einen Namen gemacht, indem sie Interviews und andere Auskünfte über ihre Identität verweigerten. Nach lauterwerdender Kritik über “Viel Wind um Nichts” äußerte die Band sich schließlich und verkündete, sie wolle keine Hype-Band sein. Trotzallem halten einige Anhänger der Band die Luft an und hoffen auf einen erneuten, wenn auch eher unkomischen, PR-Streich der Band.
Bereits seit September 2012 war die Facebookseite der Band nicht aktualisiert worden, ehe sie gestern endgültig aus dem Netzwerk verschwand. Zuletzt sorgte ein Autowerbespot für Aufmerksamkeit um die Band, da dieser mit WU LYFs Titel “Heavy Pop” das “sexiest sportscar” bewarb. Ein dazu abgegebenes Statement der Band auf Facebook verschwand schon wenige Zeit danach wieder aus dem Netz.
Ob die Band ohne ihren Sänger mit der charakteristischen Stimme weitermachen wird, sollte sich die Trennung bestätigen, gilt als eher unwahrscheinlich.
